Wow! Truly enjoyed your article! I first spied awe-inspiring Thomas Cole paintings during weekly Smithsonian visits in the early 80s when they featured the original "Voyage of Life" series; a joyful moment and unforgettable experience. Exploring his intention was a delight to read and consider. After reading this article I now stepped into thoughts of what a conversation with Cole would entail. Thank you, again, for this. Blessings.

Thank you! I was lucky enough to see the Voyage of Life in person this past summer in Utica NY — absolutely moving. Hudson River School paintings must be seen in person — a truly sublime experience. I’m glad you enjoyed Cole’s thoughts as much as I did. His lectures are tremendous, I highly recommend reading them if you get a chance. 🙏

Fox,

Your understanding and explanation of Thomas Cole’s vision of art in his contemporary world gives us great insite into his era and his desire to express his talents, his reverence for the talents of mankind and his appreciation of the evolution and dissolution of civilizations.

At once he is so enamored with the artistic talent of mankind that he suddenly is struck with the fear of losing it or the ability of a nation to appreciate it.

Each age of mankind and art, and each place of mankind and art are of genuine and comparable value. We as artistic beings continue to bring beauty to any age or place we inhabit.

Thank you for your insights into this wonderful artist.
